About Nathalie Kabongo-Chavez
I am a proud immigrant, born in Mexico City to a Mexican mother and a Congolese father. After moving around quite a bit, we found our home in Sarasota, Florida, where I grew up. From a young age, I knew I wanted a career centered on finding solutions for people and being a reliable source of support during their most challenging moments.
I was drawn to immigration law because of my deep personal connection to it. I went through the immigration process myself as a child and later as a young adult, and I understand firsthand how complex and overwhelming it can be to navigate government requirements, documentation, and strict deadlines. I also saw the challenges that many immigrants face—challenges that I avoided due to the privilege of immigrating with a visa. This awareness shaped my desire to advocate for those who try to navigate the system without the same protections that I had.
I graduated with my bachelor’s in political science from the University of Florida and went on to attend Roger Williams University School of Law. During law school, I participated in hands-on experiences working directly with individuals and families. Working at places like Kids in Need of Defense, Legal Aid of Manasota, and the Immigration Clinic at my law school fueled my interest in immigration and family-centered advocacy.
While interning with organizations focused on immigration and family law, I began to see how closely immigration and family law intersect. Immigrants face divorce, custody disputes, and domestic violence like anyone else, but with the added fear of immigration consequences if they pursue legal action. Family law drew me in, not only because of its complexity, but because it allows me to support clients who feel unsafe in their relationships.
After graduation, I began my legal career practicing immigration law, focusing on family-based petitions, removal defense, and humanitarian visas. I later joined the Manely Firm, where I was given an opportunity to expand my practice into family law while continuing to help build the firm’s immigration department. My background in both areas allows me to approach cases with a broader perspective. I quickly learned that family law matters are not just legal disputes — they are personal, emotional, and impactful. I strive to provide my clients with clear guidance, compassion, and strong advocacy as they experience one of the toughest seasons in their lives.
Since moving to Georgia, I live in Decatur with my husband and our three dogs. Outside of work, you will find me cooking and baking, spending time outdoors with the dogs, and unwinding with a good scary movie.
Today, I am proud to be where I am. Practicing both family and immigration law allows me to combine my lived experiences with my passion for supportive and meaningful advocacy. The clients I have had the privilege of helping—and those who I will continue to help in the future—are one of the most meaningful parts of my work. I am grateful to do this alongside an incredible team.
