The 13 Grounds For Divorce In Georgia
In Georgia, there are 13 grounds for divorce, one of which is infidelity. However, simply saying the marriage is “irretrievably broken” qualifies as a no-fault ground for divorce
Collaborative law allows both parties to work together as a couple to design a divorce outside of the court system. Both parties will come together to create mutual agreements regarding the important issues that must be settled in divorce.
Before filing for divorce in Georgia, at least one spouse must have lived in the state for six months. Regardless of the living arrangements, spouses must be separated in the legal sense before one can file for divorce.
The typical divorce timeline flows through several phases, which each have special purposes, including: Initial planning, Filing of divorce petition, Discovery and temporary hearings, Alternative dispute resolution, and a Divorce trial (if necessary).
