Emily Johnston is an Associate Attorney with The Manely Firm, P.C. based in our Marietta, Georgia office.
Emily grew up in Birmingham, Alabama and received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Auburn University. While completing her studies, Emily worked with the Legal Aid Society of Columbus, primarily researching CARES Act Compliance and developmental sessions regarding eviction cases. She was also active with the Georgia Alcohol Policy Alliance as a Policy Legal Intern. In this role, Emily researched new alcohol bills introduced into the Georgia Legislature and developed analysis that shared the pros and cons of each bill.
Emily furthered her opportunities within the Moritz College of Law Civil law Clinic while performing duties as a Certified Legal Intern. In this role, she represented indigent clients on civil matters with a focus on debt collection, while also strategically renegotiating client’s debt to protect their existing assets. Emily continued her work at the OSU Medical Center Compliance and Integrity Office in Ohio. It was here that she officially accepted a full-time position and continued her career by growing her extensive research skills and overseeing HIPAA privacy audits of all policies.
Post-graduation, Emily joined an Atlanta law firm where she aided the partners and associates with healthcare regulatory projects in order to provide useful advice to clients. Also, she assisted with developing and revising contracts with hospitals, physicians, and other healthcare entities so that clients could have successful business relations.
Emily’s next role represented insurance companies in the defense of worker’s compensation claims. She often prepared cases that were heard before the State Board of Worker’s Compensation. Next, Emily represented defendants in civil claims ranging from automobile and trucking to general liability, managing the case from deposition to settlement, mediation and trial.
