La Ti Da

The aggressive lawyer is integral to the composition of our modern adversary system. The idea is, each side has an aggressive lawyer that makes the other side look as sleazy as possible and the judge tries to figure out who disgusts him the least?

International Family Law: Our World, Your World, Is Changing

We live in a strange and fast p aced world where events' correlations are unpredictable. Relations between countries could change overnight. For example, Great Britain's recent decision to leave the European Union will be the beginning of major geopolitical changes - just like it happened with the Soviet Union. I lived through changes of that magnitude during the dissolution of the USSR and can testify firsthand that the consequences of Great Britain leaving the European Union will echo for many years to come and will affect every major county in the world.

The Power Of Team In Family Law

Last week, I found myself deep in the heart of Tennessee, trying an international divorce case. There is no one else who actually handles international family law and divorce cases full time in the south eastern United States. A lot of attorneys would like to, and they might occasionally touch a case or two, but at best, their claims to practicing international family next attorney who spends nearly 100% of his practice in international family law on law is merely wishful thinking. Besides, me, to find the the eastern seaboard you have to travel to Washington, DC. Beyond that, it is New York. Moving westward you have to look as far as Los Angeles.

Family Law: The Judge Can't Tell Me What To Do!

Divorce and Contempt trials happen when people do not agree. They need the services of the neutral, the judge to decide an issue for them. They have been unable to decide it for themselves. So what do you do when a party says, "The Judge can't Order that. I don't agree with it! The Judge can't tell me what to do!"

Trial Practice: PlayingAbove the Umpire

We have three boys. All the boys were/are quite involved in sports. When the boys would complain about a bad call, one ofmy wife's favorite sayings was that a player has to play above the umpire. Don't give the umpire a chance to call a close play. He can't call a strike if you hit the ball. He can't call you out if you are crossing the plate before the ball even reaches the baseman.
