2020 has been an interesting year so far, to say the least. We are living through pandemic and we are all in the same boat - sailing through some uncharted territory.
One of the hardest things about the quarantine is the uncertainty. Not knowing how long the quarantine is going to last, not knowing how many small and mid-size businesses will not make it, not knowing whether or not you still will have a job next week.
There are a number of international and national conventions and treaties our firm routinely deals with including the Hague Convention of 25 October 1980 on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction, which is the cornerstone of measures to take when a child has been abducted and should be returned to his or her country of habitual residence; the Hague Convention on the Service Abroad of Judicial and Extrajudicial Documents in Civil or Commercial Matters of 15 November 1965, which is a convention that dictates how to perfect Service of Process abroad, and many others.
The results are just in and The Manely Firm has four Super Lawyers Rising Stars working tirelessly for our Georgia families!
When we think about raising kids, college expenses seem to be "the end of the road," one of the last hurdles to overcome in financially supporting the children. That is, of course, if you don't plan to pay for a big wedding. Family Law plays a role here, as well.
One of my most favorite quotes about parenting is the quote by Robert Fulghum: "Don't worry that children never listen to you; worry that they are always watching you". Another quote I stand by is that "it takes a village to raise a child". In custody cases, many people are watching you. And that village (the judge) is going to decide who gets custody of your children, if you leave it up to them.
As you probably know, we handle a lot of international family law issues from international divorce to division of international property to international custody to international child abduction. In short, at The Manely Firm, we do a lot of international family law. Since so much of our practice is international, we have to know how to successfully move within, not just our own courts but the courts of many other jurisdictions and how to bring international parties before our courts so that resolution of legal issues can be achieved.
At The Manely Firm, P.C. we have clients from all over the world -from Mexico to Malaysia, from Malta to Morocco, from Moldova to Maldives, from Monaco to Mongolia.
We live in a strange and fast p aced world where events' correlations are unpredictable. Relations between countries could change overnight. For example, Great Britain's recent decision to leave the European Union will be the beginning of major geopolitical changes - just like it happened with the Soviet Union. I lived through changes of that magnitude during the dissolution of the USSR and can testify firsthand that the consequences of Great Britain leaving the European Union will echo for many years to come and will affect every major county in the world.
I am really excited to write this blog post and to share information about an amazing and rare organization I recently learned about. I am in utter disbelief that I only now found out about this organization and I am thankful that they exist and are located in Georgia. It is a unique source of help that enables many people to reach safety.
