International Family Lawyer Madam President

Allow me to wax poetic for a moment here. And honestly, this has nothing to do with what party I support or where I fall on the constantly evolving political spectrum. This is about me as a woman. As a woman practicing law. As a woman pushing ahead in a field still dominated by men - see my blog post on "mansplaining".

Tomorrow, I will vote in the 2016 presidential election. My husband and I both decided to forego early voting because we like the thrill and excitement of voting on Election Day. I remember in the 2012 election, when I was still living in Midtown and finishing up law school, I voted at this beautiful Episcopal church on Peachtree Street. It was on the way of my daily commute downtown, where I traveled by Marta and walked by that church each day. Precipitous of nothing, it rained on that chilly November day and my boots became filled with water. But I voted anyway. And I wore my sticker all day.

Tomorrow, I will vote for the first woman president. And on Wednesday, as I appear in Court for a motions hearing, we will hopefully have our first female president. I wonder how different the world will feel on that day following the election. Will there be a change in the atmosphere, the universe? Probably not, as that's the way these things go. But I'm sure there will be other women like myself who, regardless of partisan feelings, cannot help but take a breath and sigh softly "about time".
