TPP, Atlanta and International Family Law

On Behalf of | Oct 5, 2015 | International Family Law

As we know, the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement was reached today in Atlanta. Atlanta?  Why Atlanta? Well, because Atlanta is rapidly becoming the center of the international universe. That is where International Family Law fits in.

At the US Conference of Mayors meeting in Atlanta last week, Mayor Kasim Reed said, “The Metropolitan Atlanta area is already the thirteenth largest exporter in the United States, but our region has tremendous opportunity to further grow exports, grow the economy and create jobs with the Trans-Pacific Partnership.”

Those of us that live here already know that Atlanta is the coolest city in the nation. The rest of the world is figuring that out, too.

Just this month, the Atlanta Center for International Arbitration and Mediation opened its doors, housed in the fantastic new facility of the Georgia State University College of Law.  At its open house, many from the international community freely shared that the Atlanta center was easily one of the best facilities for international arbitration and mediation to be found in the world and hands down the best in the United States.

As you know, my firm handles International Family Law.  A lot of international family law.  We are the only firm in the Southeastern United States to practice this very exacting niche of family law on a full time basis. We have active cases in Germany, Spain, Costa Rica, Israel, China and Sudan right now, to name a few. All of these cases, all of these countries have a common denominator, they have an Atlanta and Georgia connection.

The world not only flies through Hartsfield, it seems, it also lands, resides and sometimes decouples here.

So the signing of the TPP in Atlanta is just the latest and perhaps most visible example of Atlanta as a truly international city. We are the world.  We are the melting pot.
