Unbundling More Information

Divorce, Contempt and Modification cases are still being filed everyday. But there is a difference. Over the past few years many family law cases have been filed pro se, which means that the person who is the plaintiff files the case on their own, without the assistance of an attorney. And just as many defendants file their answer on their own. Usually these parties represent themselves through the rest of the case as well. Sometimes, at a judge's calendar call, as many as 80% of the parties are unrepresented. At many calendar calls the number is over 50%.

The recession has hurt almost everyone. There is less to go around for most folks. Your money has to be spread farther to cover the same expenses you had a year ago. But less money to go around is not the whole of the problem. For many, many people, attorneys have priced themselves out of the market. The legal industry has become too expensive to provide access to justice for most. That is a fundamental market failure, at least it is if you care about real people.

Unfortunately, to bend the maxim a bit, the person who represents himself has a fool for a client. Even using information or forms gleaned from the internet leaves the pro se litigant at the mercy of a complex system before a judge with far too many cases and far too little time. In court, those who don't know what they are doing get nothing done, or worse.

There is a new paradigm in law that attempts to provide access to justice for more people. It is called "Unbundling." It's like Law a la Carte. The principle is the same as in a restaurant. From all of the possible work that a law firm performs on a given case, you choose only the tasks you want the firm to work on. You keep the rest for yourself. You pay only for the work you want done. That way you can precisely budget how much legal work you want.

The Manely Firm, P.C. has just brought this new legal paradigm to Georgia. We can now handle cases, a la carte. By hiring us to handle just the work you want, you can afford a successful family law firm with over 22 years of experience, a firm that practices in front of the very judge you have to convince.

With unbundling we can provide more affordable access to justice. If you want to learn more; if you think that unbundling may help you get the advice, document preparation or representation you need, call The Manely Firm, P.C. at 770-421-0808.
