Attorney Michael Manely Opens New Offices
Atlanta - January 2008
Attorney Michael Manely, one of Metropolitan Atlantas high profile attorneys, has opened two new offices at 3475 Lenox Road, Suite 400 Atlanta, GA 30326 and 270 East Main Street in Downtown Canton. Manely earned local and international notoriety fighting for the underdog in difficult public interest, family law and business law cases. In 2005, he recorded one of his biggest victories for the underdog helping a citizen and the ACLU in its fight against Cobb County Schools. As a result, Cobb County School District was forced to remove evolution disclaimer stickers from science textbooks. In 2001, he successfully won child custody for an American father who was incarcerated by the FBI for Extradition to France when his French wife accused him of kidnapping his own children. In 2000, he was successful in stopping a Marietta City Councilman and real estate owner from moving forward on plans to build a twelve story high rise on the Historic Marietta Square. When asked how he handles the notoriety, he laughs, Well, its humbling, because the interest is never really in my story, but my clients stories. I recall asking a Japanese reporter to send me a copy of the piece she was writing on the removal of the evolution disclaimer stickers. Of course, when I received it, I couldn't read a word! It was written in Japanese!
Manely's compassion for the defenseless can be traced to his childhood in Kansas, when his parents divorced and he moved with his mother to Smyrna at the age of 4. Watching his mother struggle to pay the bills while his father was serving in Vietnam gave him a desire to help broken families, and the majority of his caseload deals with domestic family law. This area of my legal practice is the most rewarding. I take tremendous pride in bringing every resource I have to bear on liberating families from dysfunction and opening the door to a new and brighter future. he said.
Later, as a student at what is now Campbell High School, Manely found himself once again the champion of the underdog, standing up for a group of his friends he dubs, the rocket-science-kids who were regularly pounded by schoolyard bullies. There was no such thing as zero tolerance then, he said. Laughing, Manely recalls how he stood up for his friends, telling the bullies they would have to go through him first, which occasionally they did.
After high school, Manely went on to graduate from Georgia State with a degree in philosophy and then law. He opened up his own practice, now 17 years old, which he runs with his wife and business manager, Shelia Manely. Manely explains, I know that when my clients are engaged in a family or business dispute, that their and their family's welfare is at stake. The worst settlement they can make, is settling for an attorney without a winning track record. For me and my staff, winning isn't a business, its personal.
