In 1991, Judge Hunter was elevated to the DeKalb Superior Court by Governor Zell Miller. This appointment gave Judge Hunter the honor of becoming the first African-American female to serve on the DeKalb Superior Court. Judge Hunter also has the distinction of being the first female and the first African-American female in the history of DeKalb County to serve as Chief Judge and Administrative Judge of the DeKalb Superior Court. Prior to her DeKalb County employment, Judge Hunter was an associate in an Atlanta law firm specializing in medical malpractice, product liability, and personal injury lawsuits. Judge Hunter is an honors graduate of Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. She received her law degree from the University Of Georgia School Of Law. Judge Seeliger has served on the bench for almost twenty-eight years, four years as State Court Judge, and twenty-four as a judge of the Superior Court. Judge Seeliger initiated several changes pursuant to his interest in civil rights, especially while serving on the State Court; he had been recognized by the DeKalb County Community Relations Commission, receiving the Chief Executive Officer's Great American Award and was recognized for his efforts by The 100% Wrong Club. Since serving on the Superior Court bench much of Judge Seeliger's attention has been directed toward the issue of domestic violence. In that effort, he helped draft a portion of the statute dealing with domestic violence protective orders. Judge Seeliger served as Chair of the Dekalb County Task Force Against Domestic Violence for three years. He is presently a member of the Georgia Commission on Family Violence and served as Chair of that Commission for six years. His work has been recognized by the Georgia Commission on Family Violence, the Women's Resource Center, DeKalb County Task Force Against Domestic Violence, and the Atlanta & Georgia Political Caucus. He was recently named as a member of the national board for Faith Trust Institute, an organization dedicated to ending violence and sexual assault within the context of the religious community. Judge Seeliger has presided over matters that any Superior Court would handle including serious criminal matters, domestic relations, and other major cases. Perhaps he is best known for presiding over the Presidential Parkway case from 1985 through 1991, resulting in settlement and creation of the Freedom Parkway and a park next to the Carter Presidential Library. Judge Seeliger is married to the former Gwen Hagler, and they live in Stone Mountain and attend St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church. He has two daughters, the Rev. Cynthia Seeliger who is an Episcopal priest and Katherine Seeliger who is doing accounting work for EMI. Both live in Nashville, Tennessee.
